My Weigh KD-8000 food scale has made some buzz in recent months and people are getting to know more of this kitchen scale that stands out of the crowd because of certain distinguished features.
No,
It does not mean that this is a perfect food weighing scale and it has definitely its own drawbacks, but it provides solution to certain problems that you will find with almost all food scales.
Even those food scales that appear with an “Amazon’s Choice” tag and 2 or 3k+ positive reviews tend to have certain problems like irritating and annoying auto shut-down feature, very small place to weigh which makes it impossible for the consumers to weigh items in larger quantity and which casts a shadow over the display too … so on and so forth.
Before we talk about its merits and demerits in detail, let us have a look at the pros and cons of MyWeigh scale.
My Weigh Scale: Pros & Cons
- Dual option – AA batteries as well as AC adapter
- Unique percentage weighing system – especially good for bakers
- 282.1917 ounces weighing capacity – bigger than most of kitchen scales on Amazon
- Customizable auto-shut off time
- Sturdy, durable and big weighing platform – made of stainless steel
- AC adaptor comes separately
- Not as weight sensitive as some other scales
- Scale might break after some time
My Weigh Digital Scale Review
Before we go ahead with pros and cons, let me clarify something here: MyWeigh KD-8000 is one of the best scales that I found over Amazon. Yet, when it comes to cons, many customers have reported that their scale stopped working after a few weeks or a month or two.
This is not what we observed during our testing, yet we included this point because so many users reported it.
Also, since this scale does not show units in decimals, it is not as weight sensitive as it should have been. This is something obvious; you can have, for example, a display telling you that the weight is 2 ounces, while actually, the weight can be 1.07 or something like this.
So, the bakers or chefs who are bent on precision and 100% accuracy of the weighing measurements, should not go for this scale. And this is all about the cons; I won’t really say much about AC adaptor, because there are scales that does not come with AC adaptor option and we still buy them.
Why not go for a scale that at least gives this option, on top of the AA batteries option? While we are at it, let this be known that this scale, if you go for AA batteries option, uses only three of them and they are included in the box.
As I have already explained the weighing capacity of this item, let us talk about its own weight; it is 40.8 ounces which is heavier than most of the weighing scales that you will find on Amazon, but since you do not have to carry a weighing scale in your hands, weight does not matter much.
Now:
We can go ahead and talk about the pros of this scale, but before we do so, let us have a look at this table based on certain criteria that we set and see how well My Weigh scale scored on a scale of 1 to 10.
Usability | Design | Measurement Units | Graduation
(Ounces) |
Maximum Weight
(Ounces) |
Weight of the Scale
(Ounces) |
Overall Rating | |
MyWeigh | 9 | 8 | 6 | 0.03 | 282.1917 | 40.8 | 7.25 |
As you can see this scale scored 7.25; while 5 – 6 is an average scale’s score, 7.25 pretty much proves that this scale is an above average scale. The only criterion where it lost its points was “Weight of the Scale” and considering how irrelevant it is in most of the situations where you need a weighing scale, the actual rating should be roughly 8.30.
Leaning from cons to pros, one must not ignore the usability and design of this scale. You can customize your shut-off timing, you can read the display even when a large bowl is placed on the platform and you have percentage features etc.
Because of these points, that we are about to discuss briefly, KD-8000 is considered a scale worthy of a very good rating.
My Weigh KD-8000 Features
Now, without further ado, let us discuss these pros in brief words:
AC Adapter
Ever had to rush off to the store to buy AA batteries in the mid of action? You are never going to have this problem with this weighing scale. Just connect the AC adapter (you have to buy it separately) and enjoy endless weighing.

Customization of Auto-Shut Off
The scales that we know try certain tricks to retain the battery life. Either the display goes from backlit to plain or it auto-shuts off. Not anymore! With this nice and easy food weighing scale, you can turn-off this auto-function and take as much time as you need to add or remove ingredients.
Display Always Visible
Not only the big digits on this display are always visible even when the light turns off, but its position also makes it possible for you to always look at the display, even if a large bowl or tray is placed on the platform.

Percentage Feature
AC adapter, customization of auto-shut off and now percentage feature: MyWeigh digital scale is so different from other scales, on so many levels. It lets you use percentage feature to measure grains and salt and similar ingredients.
Compact Size
Yes it is heavier than most of the scales on Amazon, but it is more compact than many of them. You can easily store it in any of your kitchen cabinets, even in a cabinet split in two horizontal halves. This is not what you can do with bulky and bigger scales.
So:
I bet that after reading this review of MyWeigh, you now have a better idea of this scale’s pros and cons. But don’t go for my word; apply due diligence, do some Googling and read customer reviews, and buy this scale if you see that pros of this scale outshine the cons of it.
