Do you love coffee?
Me too – coffee and blues. However, I don’t like those instant coffee sachets and I like to grind and brew my coffee at home. It’s kind of a creative activity and I like it.
Problem?
There are not many good coffee scales out there and I wanted the best ones because I want a perfect quantity of caffeine for my daily motivation and this made me do a little research on best coffee scale online.

And guess what?
I managed to find out a few very good ones. These food scales/coffee scales can be found on Amazon and after testing them, I am able to tell you the too good, good and ugly ones.
Well … not ugly, but less impressive ones. See, there are those that are particularly for coffee weighing purposes.
And then there are those that are actually for coffee weighing purposes. The companies that brand their weighing scales as “coffee scales” or “espresso scales”.
So:
In this review, you will find out the top ten coffee scales that you can buy from the Amazon. And here is the detailed review of these coffee scales.
Coffee Scale Review Criteria
Unless you’re a sassy gal:
Please don’t go judge those coffee scales based on their colors, shapes and styles. All weighing scales are not equal.
You have to set criteria, define certain standards and then vet each and every scale as per those standards to see whether that scale is good enough for you or not.
So in order to put things in perspective:
Here are all the points of our coffee scale reviewing criteria:
Timer
Well:
This is not something that you will get with each and every food scale. Actually, what really puts a coffee scale apart from all other food scales is a simple and different touch like a timer.
What’s the job of this timer?
Well, a drip timer does more than what you expect. It lets you know the perfect bloom times and pours each time you use the scale.
In simple words, this timer puts you in total control of your coffee brewing process. This is the little-sophisticated touch that escalates a simple kitchen scale to a lever where it can be called a coffee scale.
Usability
Just like a food scale, a coffee scale’s basic job is also to give you exact quantity reading for your coffee.
It has to be a usable item and usability is the most important aspect of any good coffee scale or food scale.
So, what is usability? You might ask.
Well, a coffee scale is usable when it has a bigger and stable scale and irrespective of how and where you dispense the coffee beans or coffee on it, it gives you an accurate and exact weight measurement.
Design
By design, I do not mean whether it has a brushed aluminum finish or it has a curvy metal scale on top of it.
Design is a very wide term. While you may fall for a beautiful scale and yes that is also design, the design that I’ve just referred to, is:
- Fixed or removable weighing trey
- Digital meter or analog meter
- Plastic or Metal Finish
- Charging or AAA/AA Batteries
- Measurement Units
As I said, except for the read that it is branded as a coffee scale or it has one or two special features, at the end of the day, a coffee scale is just another food weighing scale.
So:
If a scale can show you the weight of your coffee in 3 to 4 different measurement units e.g. lbs, grams, Kg etc. then it is a better scale as compared to one that only shows measurement in one or two different units.
Graduation
When you will go to Amazon to find a perfect coffee scale for your kitchen, you will see a few listings with this word “graduation”.
What is a graduation unit? Well, this does not have to do with the performance of scale, as you might think.
It has more to do with the minimum possible measurement that you can take. So, for example, most of the scales (not only coffee scales) out there have 0.01 graduation ounce limit.
This shows that anything less than this quantity will not be possible to weight. So basically, smaller the graduation ounce, better the weighing capacity of your scale.
Maximum Weight
Would you like a coffee scale that will make you weight your coffee in two attempts, or you would prefer a coffee scale with bigger weighing capacity.
Although, in the case of coffee beans or crushed coffee beans you do not need a scale with too big weighing capacity, it still matters a lot when your scale can weight a bigger quantity of coffee.
Weight of the Scale
This is what we should be least concerned with. Why? It is because once you have specified a space for the coffee scale, it is not highly likely for you to move it every other day.
However, considering that at times people have to pack or move the coffee scale from one to another place, weight is a somewhat important criterion.
Better are the scales that are sturdy and durable, but still not too big or heavy for you.
List of Top 10 Coffee Scales

1. Ivykin Multi-Function Pour Over Coffee Scale
As you can see:
This is one good example of a weighing scale that can be called a coffee weighing scale without any doubt.
You must have noticed that there are only two cons and both of them are not related to the performance of the scale.
Both of them are associated with the digital panel. And both of these issues do not hinder the panel from performing and reflecting the measurements.
It is just that the scale’s panel is not backlit and due to this reason it has the shadow problem. Speaking of pros, we have many good points.
To start with:
This scale is a lightweight and sleek and stylish scale. The rubberized grip on the bottom and weighing platform on the top make it 100% slip proof.
It uses AAA batteries only which is just another con because charging keeps you up and running without any risk. However, the good thing is that you can move it anywhere and scale coffee without having an electric socket near you.
All in all, a real coffee scale.
- 4 High Precision Sensors in 4 Corners of Weighing Platform give 100% Accurate Measurements
- Non-slip Rubberized Weighing Platform
- Sleek & Stylish Design with Big and Clear Digital Meter
- 3Kg Maximum Weighing Capacity
- Not a Backlit Meter
- Meter’s Positioning is Exposed to Shadow
2. Acaia Black Pearl Coffee Scale
This is a class apart. This coffee scale is one of the most famous ones and if you’ve really been looking for high quality coffee scales, you must have come across Acaia coffee scale.
You can enjoy a great control and ease if you start using this scale with Bluetooth and app designed especially for this scale.
Let lone every other detail, the graduation unit in itself is an example for all other coffee scales and food scales – it scales minimum 10th of a gram.
As per the reviews, its charging works like a magic. You charge it once and then use it uninterruptedly for weeks or even a month or two. The USB power supply comes with the product.
A two-way timer, that you can sync with your smart phone, helps you with all tasks like blooming and pouring etc.
Last, but not the least, you get auto-zero tracking with this coffee scale.
The only serious con is the price. It is definitely too expensive for a great coffee scale, but considering the quality and functions that come with this scanner, that’s a no brainer.
- The Most Innovative Design
- 20ms Response Time and Accurate Measurements
- 10th of a Gram Graduation
- Built-in Stopwatch
- Acaia pearl is too Expensive for a Coffee Scale
- A Little More Delicate and Complicated
3. Coffee Gator Digital Brewing Scale
Should we complain about a short weighing platform that makes it difficult for us to weigh coffee in a big container? Yes!
But:
Should these two cons be enough for you to skip buying this scale? Absolutely not.
Why?
It is because its pros simply outshine its cons. For starters, it charges roughly $20 for something that other “coffee only” scales charge $100+.
And what about other qualities? I mean, this scale looks and feel very good because of the rubberized weighing trey and bottom.
This means a 100% slip-proof weighing. Also, I have not mentioned this pro, but it is very important.
This scale comes with a back-lit digital screen. So problems that occur because of bad lighting or shadow, go out of the window.
Plus, it comes with a timer like all good coffee scales do. So scale or brew, your timer is with you.
A very promising quality of this weighing scale is its capacity to weigh as much as 0.003Oz coffee. And the maximum is 3Kg. This simply means that you can enjoy the minimum possible amount of crushed coffee that you want or go as high as 3Kg.
- Ergonomic Design
- 0.003 Oz Graduation and 3Kg Maximum Weight
- Non-slip Rubberized top and Bottom
- Timer to help with Bloom and Pour Tasks
- Inaccurate Measurements Sometimes
- Too Short
4. Hario V60 Drip Coffee Scale
We cannot talk about the beauty of this coffee-only scale and timer without first being clear on the cons.
So, by clumsy material (mostly) I mean the plastic that is used to make its body and mainly its weighing platform.
It is cheap plastic (sorry) so it flexes and it may break early or later. Not that every other customer does so, but this problem exists.
‘Design flaws’ is a very relative term here. What I meant was the flaws that are reported by the users of this product.
If someone tells you that this product is likely to break (machine) after a few months or first year and if someone lets you know that during drip time water gets inside the scale and it may affect the inside circuit and machine, these are not two different problems.
However:
The qualities of this scale are undeniable. For example, you get to use a drip timer as well as a brew timer to make sure that what you get is the finest quality of drip or brewed coffee.
Then:
It comes with 2 AAA batteries – not 3. So you get a good battery budget and I know that this item can scale liters of coffee in the first 2 AAA batteries.
- 0.1 Gram Graduation Unit
- Drip Timer – Perfect for Those Who Love Drip Coffee
- Timer for Brewing
- 2 AAA Batteries
- Clumsy Material
- Design Flaws
5. Brewista Smart Scale II
Also, the price is roughly $90 and the weighing capacity is only 2Kg while many important features are missing.
Even a $20 scale has better weighing capacity.
However:
With a careful reading of the features, one gets to the conclusion that while this scale lacks at one or two important features, it comes up with its own perks.
For example, it has 6 very easy to use modes and it has automatic tare and automatic timer. This is not what every other coffee scale has to offer you.
Mode 1 is fully manual that puts you in manual control of this product. So manually control the timer and tare button. Remaining 5 modes are for espresso lovers.
With a USB charging option, this scale frees you of the problems that come with AAA or AA batteries. The USB charging socket is covered by a silicone lid that can be moved to charge the scale. This gives it the power to resist the liquids.
- Silicone Protective Pad – Protects from Leakage, Impact and Scratches
- Backlit Display with No Extra Load on Batteries
- 0.1 Gram Graduation and 2KG Weighing Capacity
- Automatic Tare and Time
- Not 100% Waterproof
- Expensive for the Features
6. Outry Coffee Scale
This coffee scale is also one with no significant cons. I did not see anything like this in testing, but only one of its Amazon customers has reported that his scale as started to malfunction.
Another issue that is more relevant to how the inner circuit works, is 2AAA batters and backlit panel. As per the assumption of fact, a backlit panel with 2AAA batteries will consume them too fast.
Apart from these not so important cons, there are many pros to prove the worth of this product.
They say that the weighing scale has a high precision sensor that gives off very accurate weighing measurement.
From minimum possible weight (0.1grams to maximum possible weight (3Kg), this scale can very well take care of all your brewing method and dripping needs.
- High Precision Censor that Registers Weight Changes Immediately
- Built-in Timer with Maximum Timing 100 minutes
- 0.1Grams Graduation and 3Kg maximum load
- Easy on Eyes Green Backlit Display Panel
- Scale is Likely to Malfunction
- 2 AAA Batteries – Never Enough with a Backlit Panel Scale
7. HuiSmart Digital Coffee Scale
There are some scales that offer a 100% accurate reading, but they take so much time to change the measurements on the display that people get sick and tired of them and throw them away.
The other issue with this scale is the handling of it. You put it on some uneven surface and the display will start jumping between 1 to 2 grams.
However, this issue can be taken care of.
The good thing about this scale is that it has so many positive points. For example, let us talk about that mat and hanger role design thing.
It has a plastic mat, more like a trey, that convers it from underneath and protects it from water and scratches.
A hanger hole in the bottom so you can hang it with the wall once you are done with weighing your coffee. Since it is a lightweight and smart coffee scale, it does not take much space.
- Highly Accurate Measurements
- 0.1Gram Graduation and 3Kg Maximum Weight
- Smart and Sleek Design – Easy to Clean
- Backlit Display
- Accurate, but Annoyingly Slow Readings
- Tricky Handling
8. HOSTWEIGH Coffee Scale
Since 2 AAA batteries are only hardly enough to keep this thing working, extra load of LCD Display cause malfunction in display and speedy consumption of batteries.
However:
Apart from these two problematic areas, this scale is pure love. It comes with auto power off and tare function that make it an adequately good coffee scale.
Although it is a combo of food and coffee scale, it has everything that you need in a coffee scale. For example, it has cooking timer that works for coffee as well.
Apart from these two pros, there are two more good features to mention here. Previously, I’ve been reading reviews of the unhappy customers who were angry on their scales because they never tell about overload and low battery.
Well:
This one has two separate indications that show on the display panel. One is for low battery indication and the other lets you know when you are trying to scale items heavier than 3Kg.
- Quick and Accurate Responses
- Backlit LCD Display
- 0.05Oz Graduation and 3Kg Maximum Weight
- Rubberized Non-Slip Top
- Display is likely to Malfunction
- Eats Through Batteries
9. ERAVSOW Digital Hand Drip Coffee Scale
First con is personal observation and a lot of customers’ reviews on Amazon second my opinion. It is more like 0.4 or 0.5Oz Graduation and not what they state on their Amazon listing.
Second con is what I added because a handful of customers had this complaint. I, personally, saw no such issue with the product. However, since so many people have said it, I believe that it is unstable and likely to break after a few weeks or months.
Now:
We are done with ugly part, let us see how beautiful it is.
This thing comes with a timer than can easily switch between a drip timer and a food weighing timer. The LCD display is love; it is easy on eyes and you always clearly see the numbers.
With low battery and overload indications, this is one of the best coffee scales on Amazon.
- Highly Precision G-sensor gives Accurate Measurements
- 0.1Oz Graduation and 3KG Maximum Weight
- Easy on Eyes Backlit Display
- Timer & Low-battery and Overload Indications
- More Than 0.1Oz Graduation
- Scale is Likely to Break After a Few Months
10. Brewberry Stainless Steel Coffee Scale
This one has some unique cons. First one, in case you had trouble understanding it, means that the scale is so sensitive that if you accidently nudged it, even if only a little, it will reset everything.
While I did not witness the first one in my short testing of this product, I can affirm the second one. The buttons are definitely not easy to press.
However:
If you look at the bright side, you will happy to notice that this scale has the qualities of this scale are unparalleled.
For example, it is only scale in this review that is made solely with stainless steel. Thus, it is the most durable one and easiest to clean.
It has not 1, 2 or 3, but totally 6 weighing modes. So, you can choose among, auto-tare and auto-timer, auto-tare and manual-timer, auto-tare and no timer, auto-tare and auto-timer with timer based on liquid hitting the cup ….. so on and so forth.
- Stainless Steel Body – Durable and Easy to Clean
- 6 Weighing Modes
- Big and Clear Backlit LCD Display
- Customizable auto off function
- Too Sensitive
- Hard to Push Buttons
